Excerpt from Site Indexes for Lodgepole Pine, With Corrections for Stand Density: Instructions for Field UseLodgepole pine (pinus contorta Dougl.) commonly grows in overly dense stands, and crowding restricts the rate of height growth. Site index must, therefore, be adjusted for stand density. Figures 1 and 2, and tables 1 through 7 have been prepared for field use in estimating site index for lodgepole pine. They are applicable to lodgepole pine stands in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, Montana, and eastern Washington and Oregon.2 Information necessary to understand field application of the site index curves and instructions for their use are presented in this paper.
