There were difficulties, however, in the way, and it was found hardly possible to carry out this idea, however good in itself. But when the suggestion was repeated, the thought gradually took shape that something of the sort might be attempted in book form for the general reader. Then again, one is sometimes asked whether there is a book on the subject of the Holy Eucharist that could be put into the hands of inquiring outsiders, or of recent converts, which, without going into deep research, would yet offer general instruction and information, such as they might naturally desire to have and reasonably expect to find, on so important a matter.
