Excerpt from Report of the Secretary of Agriculture, 1937Traps 'were used extensively on this project in Texas to determine the extent. Of the adult population of the Mexican fruit¿y (anastrepha ludens Loew). Few ¿ies were taken before the first of the year. In January, however, it became apparent that there were many more ¿ies in the area than during any previous season, and that if conditions remained favorable, larval infestations might become general. The number of ¿ies recovered from traps continued to mount throughout February, but no infested fruit Was found until toward the close of the month. Ea1ly in March the condition changed radically. Relatively few ¿ies were trapped, but larval infestations were found in all districts. In April the ¿y population again mounted, and the number of larval infestations decreased. In May only a small amount of infested fruit was found during the tree-to-tree' inspection work, and -none was discovered in June. Throughout these 2 months the ¿y catch continued to decline to a point where only four ¿ies. Were trapped the latter half of June.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
