Excerpt from Report of the Board of Health of the City and Port of Philadelphia to the Mayor, for 1867The general sanitary condition of the city was remarkably good, the total number of deaths being (see Appen dix H, ) or a decrease of as compared with that of 1866, when the mortality was less than that Of either of the previous two years. This gratifying State of things must undoubtedly be ascribed, in a great measure, to the very ex tensive and efficient sanitary measures instituted and prose cuted by the Board, in anticipation of and during the cholera season of the previous year the result being the most com plete and thorough cleansing and purification to which the city had been subjected for many years.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
