Excerpt from Report of a Survey of the University of ArizonaAfter a preliminary study of the situation from such data as were available, the committee proceeded to the University of Ari zona to pursue its investigation. The committee was met by a committee representing the board of regents and was informed that a survey of the general educational and financial efficiency of the university was desired, with emphasis on the business and financial condition and administration of the institution. It was requested that special attention be given to the budget for the ensuing year.Meanwhile a special session of the State legislature had been called to consider a peculiar financial condition. An act of the State legislature in 1921 provided a mill tax for the support of the university, but it later developed that the income therefrom did not synchronize with the expenditures of the university. T o relieve this condition the State legislature was called into extra session. Straightway an economy program was put forward, and the State legislature sent a committee to the university to ascertain the financial needs of the institution. This committee met with the board of regents on February 25.
