»Law beyond the State«
The publication describes the regulation of privately contracted armed security personnel as a polycentric and network-based process of transnational law. It compares a wide-ranging set of rules of different character, concerning international treaties as well as privately driven codes of conduct, ISO-standards or paralegal guidelines and leads to the conclusion that the regulation of maritime security companies is not exclusively governmentally dominated but also intensely privately influenced.
