Reassessing Poverty in Malaysia

Angebote / Angebote:

This book revisits the problem of poverty and attempts to revive discussion on the topic. The contributions in this volume seek to re-assess poverty from several angles. Aside from a review of the policies that have been instituted to alleviate poverty and the socio-economic context in which this phenomenon has occured, a variety of other views are offered. The includes an exanimation of poverty, as it has occured in Malaysia, from the perspective of minorities who have not been accorded much voice, and this includes plantation workers, indigenous people and women. A fair share of the book addresses poverty within the contaxt of globalisation. This book would also be invaluable for scholars working on Malaysia and developing world. Shankaran Nambiar is a Research Fellow at the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research, Malaysia's premier think-tank. He has, to his credit, many published articles and book chapters pertaining to economic development in Malaysia. He has been invited to present papers at conferences and capacity-building workshops held in South East Asia and Central Asia on Malaysia's development experience.
