This was followed by a small book on the same subject. Both Of these productions met with a very ¿atterin g reception, this was owing, doubtless, to the fact that they were the first publications of their kind. I can see now that they were at best exceedingly crude and incomplete, indeed it was the conviction that this was so that prompted me to continue to give the subject such consideration as I was able.
