Promoting Successful Science Education - The Worth of Science Education Research

Angebote / Angebote:

The symposium on chemical and science education that inspired this collection of papers is embedded in a long lasting and continuously improving tradition. It was in 1981, that Hans-Jürgen Schmidt organized the first symposium in Dortmund. In May 2008 we celebrated the 19th symposium within this series. The symposium took place at the University of Dortmund and was entitled: Promoting Successful Science Education - The Worth of Science Education Research. The symposium in 2008 continued the intense discussions about the research- practice (and researcher-practitioner) relationship in science education. In all the last three symposia (in 2002, 2004 and 2006) a special emphasis was laid on the relationship between university driven research, curriculum development done by university staff or beyond, and classroom practice taught by teachers in schools. This relationship was repeatedly criticised as not being in a good form (e.g. de Jong, 2000). The past symposia tried to contribute to a better understanding between the different communities within science education with a special emphasis on improving the potential benefit for classroom practices and teacher training. As a starting point for this collection of papers a short look back may help better to understanding the actual discussions and contributions within this book.
