Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, December 13, 14, 15, 1916 Because at this time all the eggs have hatched that are going to hatch. If the spraying was conducted too soon some of the eggs may not have hatched. Pretty nearly all the insects are on the tips of the buds easy to reach and without protection. Later, when the leaves and blossoms are filling out, the insects have considerable protection and it is hard to reach all of them with the spray. There are fewer insects to kill at this time than at any other time. It may take only a half to a fourth as much material at this time as a month or two later. This is the best time to spray with lime sulphur for San Jose scale and instead of spraying two different times for two different in sects, they may both be combined, using the lime sulphur for dilut ing the Black Leaf 40 just as if it was so much water.
