Excerpt from Proceedings of the Ohio Association of Union Ex-Prisoners of War: At the Reunion Held at Dayton, O., July 29, 30 and 31, 1884, With Register of MembersComrades will bear in mind that Chillicothe is the place selected for our next reunion, the first Wednesday and Thusday in August, 1885. Chillicothe has eleven thousand inhabitants, and is the principal town in the Scioto Valley. It has been the home of three of Ohios most noted Governors, and on Cemetery Hill rest the remains of Massie, McArthur and Allen. It was the early capital and metropolis of the State. Looking northeast can be seen the hill and valley from which the great seal of Ohio was caught. Its people now, as well as during the war, are noted for their staunch loyalty, their appreciation of the soldier, and for genuine hospitality. Hotel accommodations are good, there being several small hotels in addition to the Warner, Emmit, Commercial and St. James. Three lines of railway, with their various connections make the place easily accessible from all parts of the State. For places in which large meetings can be held, the town is peculiarly well adapted as a place for our reunions, being possessed of a rink, which will seat two thousand people, as well as two Opera Houses of a capacity of eight hundred each. Let us see if we cannot make this the largest and most enthusiastic meeting of the kind yet held. Let each comrade make preparations to attend, and bring his family and friends also. Gatherings of this kind will not only interest the people at large in the ex-prisoners of war, but may lead Congress to see the necessity of doing something for the benefit of ex-prisoners of war. Don't fail to be on hand.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
