Excerpt from Practical Data for the Cyanide Plant The inspiration for the publication of this volume was in the realization that, while theory and practice of the cyanide process has been ably explained in the standard works on the subject, no attempt has yet been made to collect the practical data, formulæ, tables, usual methods etc., in one small and convenient volume which might be carried about by the "Man on Shift." The work is frankly a compilation, with some few diversions from standard practice which long experience has shown to be advisable. It is intended to assist the shift man in understanding the basic reasons for the operations he performs every day, and to give him convenient access to the data he may have to use from time to time. The experienced worker also, it is hoped, will find the work a convenience to him on his travels, containing, as it does, matter which could only be had from a number of standard books on the subject aside from his personal notes. The author fully realizes the deficiencies of the work and request communications from those who feel inclined to suggest the advisability of additions or improvements. The author sincerely hopes that the volume may be an aid and a convenience to the "Man on Shift, " to whose especial use he has dedicated his work.
