Excerpt from Practical CitizenshipThe general scope and plan of the book gives to the reader three general sections, the body politic is in the first section considered as an organism, a machine, and the method of reasoning followed is that called "analogy" or "correspondence, " whereby parts and functions of the aggregate are considered in the same light as would be corresponding parts and functions of the individual organism. The second section takes up the forces which run the body politic, the machine, the organism. These forces are assumed to be subject to contemplation and study. They are assumed to be varied manifestations of one giant force, occasionally named as the Divine Human Force. If the book were a treatise on theology, this force would be called the "Spirit of God, " or the "Holy Spirit." It is assumed to be the Giant Intellect of Deity, hovering above the structure which he has called into being, and which we call "human society, " and more frequently, the "Race" or the "Race Man, " somewhat in the same way as the human soul broods over the bodily structure wherein for its pilgrimage on earth it is temporarily encased.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
