Potential for Treatment of Agricultural Drain Water With Microalgal-Bacterial Systems

Angebote / Angebote:

Excerpt from Potential for Treatment of Agricultural Drain Water With Microalgal-Bacterial Systems: August, 1985Selenium, an element analagous to sulfur, other toxic trace elements such as cadmium, chromium, mercury, lead, arsenic, nickel and zinc, originating from sub-surface tile drainage water have been found at high levels, both in certain drainage waters and in residual waters of Kesterson Reservoir in the San Joaquin Valley.Overt effects on wildlife, such as malformation of coot and duck hatchlings, together with numerous chemical analyses, indicate a genuinely severe environ mental problem with selenium and metals resulting from the high levels in drainage waters and the current practice of long - term holding and evaporating these drainage waters. Projections also strongly indicate that, due to eutrophic effects in Kesterson Reservoir, the current problems will accelerate in intensity without remedial action. Closure of Kesterson Reservoir will likely fragment but will not eliminate a problem which demands a rational solution.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
