Excerpt from Phenyliminomalonates and the Mechanism of Their ReactionsWe have studied methyl phenyliminomalonate condensations with the three toluidines, benzylamine, hydrocyanic and hydrochloric acids. With the ortho and para toluidines white crystalline addition products were formed, but with the meta a glycerol like oil was produced. With hydrocyanic acid a dark red oil was formed which we were unable to purify on account of its instability. The hydrochloric acid addition product is a white crystalline compound at -150, but rapidly decomposes with evolution of hydrochloric acid gas when exposed to the air at room temperature. Benzylamine gives a stable, white, crystalline product.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
