Né en 1711, à château-neuf, dans le Bern, François Joseph Desbillons entra dans la Compagnie de Jésus, et pendant plusieurs années enseigna la rhétorique avec dis tinction...l'extrême pureté avec laquelle il écrivait en latin, dans un soecle où l'étude de cette langue commençait à tomber rapidement, acquit de la célébrité à ses ouvrages, et le fit surnommer le dermer des Homams.
