Excerpt from Periodical Accounts, Vol. 6: Relating to the Missions of the Church of the United Brethren, Established Among the HeathenIn 1765 my master died, and'i obtained leave to move to Herrnhut. My joy on coming to live in a settlement of the Brethren was inexpressibly great, and in the beginning I eu joyed a great share of happiness, through the mercy of my Saviour. But not yet knowing myself, though I admired the order and excellent regulations among the Brethren, I did not feel the necessity of strict attention to my own heart, and daily dependance upon the strength and grace of our Saviour. In the same year, I was received into the congregation, and March 19, 1766, became a partaker of the Lord's Supper. What I experienced on this solemn occasion, no tongue can tell. I again devoted myselfto my crucified Redeemer with my whole heart, and He graciously gave me to know that He had entered into a covenant with me, which amidst all subsequent deviations and unfaithfulness on my part, he has kept unbroken.
