Pedro is a seven year old boy who has been diagnosed with having autism. At times, Pedro's disorder makes him become silly and emotional. When Pedro becomes emotional, it is difficult for adults to calm him down. When deciding to take him on various outings Pedro's parents are sometimes embarrassed by his behavior. Therefore, they are afraid to send him with the class on a field trip to the aquarium.
Rasheedah Saleem-Muhammad currently serves as a Special Educator in New Jersey. She has an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts, a Bachelor of Art Degree in Political Science, a Masters Degree in Special Education and a PhD candidate. She has always been in favor of education. She is a person who promotes change and loves working with students with special needs. Her sole belief is that we live in an era where addressing individuals with autism has manifested tremendously and autism has quickly become a global concern. As an educator of individuals with autism, she
believes that all children have the ability to learn, and each child is special, and has different learning abilities. Prior to teaching individuals with autism she had little to no training in this field. She highly favors teaching as a lifetime obligation and every child has the capacity to learn. Mrs. Saleem-Muhammad's choice for becoming an educator is due to her unrelenting desire towards helping others. She feels that no other career could be as rewarding as one in education. She also believes that the value of education is a quality of life for all humanity. Therefore, it is her charge to steer this special needs population in the proper direction.
