The broad divisions are the right (i. E., on the right hand of the president), comprising what is equivalent to the Conservative party, the left, the ultra-republican party (radicals, Socialists while in the centre, acting as a kind of buffer, sit the moderate Republicans, with the right centre and left centre as connecting links. In short, the extremes of opinion are on the end benches, and the lessening shades of difference meet and blend in the centre to form the happy mean.Voting is by ballot, each deputy placing a white (for) or blue (against) card in the voting-urn.
