Excerpt from On the Wing: A Book for Sportsmen
It is the author's intention in this book to give the novice in sportsmanship such suggestions and plans of operations as might naturally be demanded by him of an experienced sportsman, occasionally relating passages from his own experience, and throughout pursuing a course that shall enable the novice to apply any ideas of his own that he may have to the task of becoming a practical good shot. This book is intended more especially for the sportsman of New England. It applies particularly to brush-shooting, by which is meant all kinds of hunting and shooting of game-birds, in the fields and in the woods. But it will also apply generally to any part of the United States or Europe, foe, in the writer's opinion, to be a good shot in New England is to be one the world over.
