Excerpt from On Imprimitive Substitution Groups: A Thesis Presented to the University Faculty of Cornell University in Candidacy for the Degree of Doctor of PhilosophyThe investigations of Dyck just referred to determine also the different sets of systems of imprimitivity which are admitted by a given imprimitive group. In particular, when the group is regular, the number of such sets is shown to be equal to the number of subgroups (not counting identity) that are contained in the group. It is clear that any substitution that is commutative with all the substitutions of a given imprimitive group determines systems of imprimitivity of the group.
