The battle Of Alcolea on September 28, 1868 resulted in the overthrow of the monarchy. But now that the republicans were in power Alarcon's enthusiasm seemed to grow cool, for during the period of the Republic he was comparatively in active. Various political parties rose to power, and Alarcon changed his political views more than once.
