It was virtually a setting aside of the law, as the hope of salvation to the Jew. For the law could not justify any one that needed repentance. To repentance belongs confession of sin. But confession of sin draws down the law's curse. Cursed is he that continueth not in all things that are written in the book of the law to do them: Gal. Iii, 10.
