Excerpt from Nineteenth Report of the State Entomologist of Connecticut: For the Year 1919
The trade evidently tried to bring into the country as much stock as possible before the new restrictive measures went into effect. Consequently between October Ist, 1918, and June 30, 1919, I 31 shipments containing 1075 cases and plants were received in Connecticut and inspected by members of this department. This is nearly twice the number of shipments and nearly three times the number of cases inspected last year, and an increase of 38 per cent in the number of plants. Forty-four shipments or per cent were infested with insects or fungi some of which are pests.
