Nickel Based Superalloys

Molten salt is salt that, at normal temperature and pressure, is in the solid phase but has transitioned to the liquid phase due to a rise in temperature. In a similar vein, these salts are renowned for their long- term temperature retention abilities. This higher kind of salt discovered its unique uses in thermal energy storage applications for molten salts technology. Although this salt has a higher potential to retain heat energy, an apparent concern would develop when keeping it in usual materials such as stainless steel or brass containers. With the aid of the hot corrosion phenomena, the containers will progressively corrode. In order to deal with this limitation, superalloy materials such as Inconel 625, Hastelloy X, and Incoloy 800H have been trailed in place of the container's original materials. An effort has been made to compare the outcomes of Yttria stabilized zirconia thermal barrier coating on substrate materials with molten salts under high temperature environment.
