New Belgian Poems

Angebote / Angebote:

Excerpt from New Belgian Poems: Les Trois Rois Et Autres Poèmes The verses published in this new volume of "Belgian Poems" were written from Easter, 1915, to Easter, 1916. In order to avoid any misunderstanding concerning the translations, it might perhaps be useful to say that they do not aim at any regularity. Only in one or two poems (Easter, 1916) and in some passages of the Mystery Play has strict accuracy been sacrificed to rhyme. Otherwise the only purpose of the translator has been to give a somewhat rhythmic rendering of the French verse in order to facilitate the task of those who might experience some difficulty in reading the original. We must express our gratitude to Mr. E. B. Osborn for very kindly revising the translations and giving us some invaluable suggestions. We must also thank the editors of The Observer, The English Review, The Spectator, Every Man, and The Field for allowing us to publish some of the poems which appeared first in their columns.
