Excerpt from Negro Year Book: A Review of Events Affecting Negro Life, 1941-1946 The Negro Year Book dates back to 1912 when the late Booker T. Washington, founder and lint principal of Tuskegee Institute, gave to publish the first edition as a service to the public. This sum was the residue of a fund donated for the purpose of collecting and circulating information favorable to the Negro. It was expected that there would be only one edition, however, the Negro Year Book met a wide and continued demand. The volumes published have been as follows: 1912, 1913, 1914-15, 1916-17, 1918-19, 1921-22, 1925-26, 1931-32, 1937-38. Many agencies and educational institutions, as well as individuals, have used the Negro Year Book extensively as a reference volume. It is specially adapted for use in schools and other places where historical and sociological data on the Negro are needed, and has circulated abroad as well as in the United States.
