There is peril in the repeated demands upon the Admiralty to abandon all the methods of the past and embark upon adventures which experience may show to have been impolitic. It is repeatedly claimed that we need a variety of auxiliary vessels always in commission accompanying the squadrons on their cruises, that the Admirals should be younger, that several of the squadrons in distant parts of the world should be abolished, that the personnel of the Fleet should be largely augmented, and that the Admiralty itself should be turned upside down in order that the administration of our Navy may be brought more into line with that of the German Fleet.In all clamour there lies serious danger. Every reform requires deliberate consideration.
