Excerpt from Naval Administrations, 1827 to 1892: The Experience of 65 YearsThis work, which my late husband has entrusted to me, is not of that character that is usually confided to ladies, and I could not have taken upon myself the responsibilities of editing a book which deals with such professional subjects as this one does had not the Author, to a certain extent, pre pared me for it, and, under all circumstances, it must have been beyond the capabilities of a woman had he not pos sessed a thorough grasp of the subject, which rendered it, comparatively speaking, a matter of easy accomplishment. In submitting this volume to the criticisms of the naval profession and general public, I do so in the hope that they will be to its faults a little blind and to its merits very kind.
