The poet DE vigny said: The press is a mouth forced to be I always open and always speaking. Hence it says a thousand things more than it has to say, and often wanders and exaggerates. It would be the same if an orator, yes, even demosthenes himself, had to speak without interruption all the year round. Probably DE vigny was think ing about the daily press, anyway, Collier's theory has been, not to cover the world nor the week's news, but to print editorials on subjects.
