The papers "Conspiracy Theories as Fiction: Kafka and Sade" by Timo Airaksinen and "Machiavelli's Conspiracy Games Revisited" by Manfred J. Holler and Barbara Klose-Ullmann were initially commissioned by Olli Loukola (Helsinki) and Leonidas Donskis (Kaunas) for their collection of papers tentatively called Secrets and Conspiracy, in Value Inquiry Book Series: Ethical Theory and Practice (Brill, Series Editor Olli Loukola). The publication of this volume has been postponed several times and for various reasons, the final one being the lamentable death of Professor Donskis in 2016. Richard T. McClelland's analysis "Shamelessness in Jane Austen: The Case of Lady Susan" complements the two papers. It is a revised version, by the same title, published in The Journal of Mind and Behavior. An earlier version of Juergen G. Backhaus's article "Lawyers' Economics vs. Economic Analysis of Law. A Critique of Professor Posner's 'Economic' Approach to Law by Reference to a Case Concerning Damages for Loss of Earning Capacity" was published in the Munich Social Science Review in 1978. It is republished in this volume, together with an introduction by Alain Marciano. The volume closes with Heinz D. Kurz's interpretation of "Classical Political Economy.
