Mortality Following Partial Cutting in Virgin Lodgepole Pine (Classic Reprint)

Angebote / Angebote:

Excerpt from Mortality Following Partial Cutting in Virgin Lodgepole PineThe results of this study show that for a period of 12 growing seasons following logging, windfall in partially cut old - growth lodge pole pine was very heavy. The loss of more than 16 percent of the residual growing stock resulted in little or no positive net increment. The uncut check plots produced a greater amount of net annual increment per acre than any of the treated plots. It can therefore be concluded that partial cutting does not stimulate growth of the residual stand in mature lodgepole pine forests. Since the species reproduced adequately under all degrees of cutting used, it appears that clearcutting and complete utilization of the slow - growing overstory, so that it can be replaced by a vigorous new stand, is to be recommended.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
