As much of this large collection as the hall, which is one hundred feet long by seventy feet wide, will accommodate, has been arranged. The two sides, the extreme end and the middle, are occupied by large cases, which, with the exception of one, contains groups of figures of the full size of life, likenesses of individual Chinese, dressed in the costumes appropri ate to the situations and employments in which they are represented. Two of the cases are facsimiles of occupied rooms, completely, but differently furnished, in the houses of a wealthy person. Another case is a complete representation of a Chinese store with the merchant, his assistants, a purchaser, 850.
