Excerpt from Memorial: James Ellison, 1778-1820
That a tributary notice should have been omitted at the decease of the different individuals oi this estimable family, may be accounted for, by the circumstance that the distressing events imparted too great a gloom to permit, at that time, the in¿uence of those feelings which occasion notices of this kind. It is when the event is of common occurrence that the prompt effusion of friendship appears - but when so overwhelming a storm of trouble bursts upon the happiness of a family - and when grief for the dead, and strong anxiety for the liv ing, are both agitating the mind - the feelings are too powerful to be indulged, and we are more desirous to repress their ardour than exhibit their impressions.
