E. Curtis, of Mt. Vernon, which continued for nineteen years, when Mr. Scribner removed to Toledo and became associated with the late Frank H. Hurd. Prior to this Mr. Scribner had been elected a member of the Ohio Senate from the district comprising Holmes, Wayne, Knox and Morrow counties, and while there he was chair man oi the Judiciary Committee. In the Senate he introduced the Criminal Code prepared by Frank H. Hurd, his predecessor in the Senate, and himself prepared the Municipal Code of the State.In the spring of 1873 he was elected a member of the Constitutional Convention. In the same year he was nominated for Supreme Judge on the Democratic ticket, but was defeated by a small majority.In November, 1887, Mr. Scribner was elected one of the judges for the Sixth Circuit, in which position he continued until the time of his death, Feb. 23, 1897.While still practicing at Mt. Vernon, Judge Scribner found time to write a two-volume work on The Law of Dower, which has taken a high rank among the legal text books.Judge Scribner was married Oct. 20, 1847, to Miss Mary E.
