To Good Little Boys And Girls.
To young friends of the Irish, my Memoirs I send,
And hope that my efforts they'll kindly befriend,
I own that Canaries in gen'ral can't write,
But the good cause of Ireland inspires me quite:
And tho' not very old, I have seen a great deal,
And for poor starving creatures can sensibly feel,
For people who only have nettles to eat,
And who think a potatoe a very great treat.
So now I must ask little girls and good boys,
Not to spend all their money in trifles and toys,
But rather bestow a few shillings on me,
Who, on the first page, busy writing they'll see.
You always have plenty to eat and to drink,
And on famishing Irish perhaps you will think,
