Excerpt from Memoir of the Life and Labors of the Rev. Adoniram Judson, D. D, Vol. 2 of 2 Views Of Missionary Work Illustrated. - Preaching Tours In The Karen Jungles. - Plan For A Mission To Palestine. 1831-1832. The events of the present chapter illustrate still more clearly Dr. Judson's views of missionary labor. He had made himself perfectly familiar with the Burman language, so that, as a medium of communication, he seemed to prefer it to his native tongue. He was aware that this knowledge imposed upon him the duty of devoting a considerable portion of his time to the work of translation, yet he considered his appropriate business as a missionary to be the preaching of the gospel. He believed that Christianity was to be promulgated by the contact of individual mind with individual mind, and hence he diligently sought every possible occasion for personally offering to men salvation by Christ. And in this there was something distinctive and almost peculiar. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
