Thaller 8 used a modification of a method described by Lenard9 and shown diagrammatically m Figure 1 (a). The high-speed electrons e pass through a layer of noble metal E, about mm thick, deposited on a somewhat thicker layer of copper oxide 0 or other insulating material, to the backing plate P and thence through a galvanometer to ground.
