Pastor Reno found the book of I John to be helpful for people sorting out where they really stand with the Lord. I John will encourage and assure those who are saved, and it will often alarm and awaken those who are lost. There are three purposes given in the book of I John for its having been written. The first purpose is: "And these things write we unto you that your joy might be full." The second purpose is: "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not." The third purpose is we can know we are saved: "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
