The adopted citi zens who are daily forced to use it as a thorough fare find it dull and commonplace and endure with such resignation as is possible its shabby gentility and its sordid aspirations. Those who claim the city as their birthplace find it not so bad after all. It is the politician alone who in the midst of a heated ward election finds it fair and lovely, the most beautiful street in the world.
