Excerpt from Litchfield Centennial Celebration: July 4th, A D. 1876, Historical Address The citiens' committee appointed to arrange for the commemoration of the Centennial Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, present the following Programme. July 3. The village bells will be rung from 8 to 10 o'clock P. M., and houses in the village illuminated during the same hours. July 4th. At sunrise the bells will be rung for one hour, and Hags displayed from all houses during the day and evening. At 10 o'clock A. M. Public Exercises in the Congregational Church, under the direction of Hon. 0. S. Seymour, President of the day. Prayer by the Rev. Allen McLean. Reading of the Declaration of Independence, by Hon. Truman Smith. Historical Address, by lion. George C. Woodruff. At 2 o'clock P. M. Exhibition in the Court House of Revolutionary and Antiquarian Relies, which will be under the charge of a special committee, and to which contributions are solicited. At 8.30 P. M.
