Shayan Afshar was born in Iran, in the western town of Urmia. He completed his doctorate in Persian Literature at the University of California at Berkeley. He has taught at the Universities of Michigan and California. His previous works are a collection of poetry, Windows Facing Street of Cities and the comprehensive Lexicon of Persian Infinities in which verbs are categorized based on infinitival endings and their roots from Old Iranian and Middle Persian languages. Presently, he lives in Los Angeles and is completing a philological study on the Persian Book of Kings.
