Excerpt from Lieder: Der Arme HeinrichÜber das Leben Hartmanns von Aue ist uns sehr wenig bekannt. Nur soviel steht ziemlich test: seine Heimat ist Schwaben. Nach ziemlich glücklicher Juget im Dienste eines Herrn von Aue (wahrscheinlich lag dessen Schloß in der Gegend des heutigen Oberen An, eine Stunde oberhalb Rottenburg am Neckar) kam er durch den Tod seines Herrn in gedrückte Verhältnisse, nahm dann, wahrscheinlich 1189 - 91, an einem Kreuzzuge teil und starb innerhalb der Jahre 1210 - 20.
