Excerpt from Lewis Ontario Statute Index: Being an Alphabetical Index of the Statutes of the Province of Ontario, Down to and Inclusive of the Year 1884, Including the Revised Statues The fact of eleven years having elapsed since an index to our statutes has been issued, prompts me to place this one for Ontario before the legal profession and the public. My intention primarily was to publish a combined index of the Dominion and Ontario Statutes, but after some little labour and thought I was convinced that such a book would be altogether too cumbersome, and that my object would be better attained by the publication of two separate volumes - for convenience in reference also this form seems preferable. This work contains a comprehensive index of all the Public Statutes of Ontario in force at the date of its publication, each subject being arranged under separate heads, as well as under general heads, as is the usual custom. I have taken infinite pains to include every possible subject, my sole object being to make this a practically useful book, and I neither anticipate nor desire for it a higher commendation.
