Of course it matters much less being disappointed in a great man's things than finding the great man himself an anti climax, as has happened to some literary pilgrims who have found in his shrine the object of their worship, still alive and speechless. Certainly there would have been no disappointment if one had lived long enough ago to find one's self face to face with Sir Walter Scott: none who did were ever disappointed. And it is likely that most of those who go to Abbotsford now so fortify themselves with the determination to be more than satisfied that wild horses (proverbially persuasive) would not draw from them any admission that there has been anything lacking.
