Excerpt from Kindertränen: Zwei ErzählungenErnst von wildenbruch was born on February 3, 1845, at Beirut, Syria, where his father at that time held the position of Prussian consul-general. The family returned to Berlin in 1847 and remained there until 1850, when the father, Ludwig von Wildenbruch, was appointed Prussian ambassador to Greece. After a year at Athens he was transferred to Constantinople, where the family lived for about six years. The mother returned to Berlin in 1857 with the children, three sons and a daughter.
