Diabetes mellitus in humans is a complex of symptoms caused by various diseases. Of frequent occurrence are: 1. multigenic, juvenile, type 1 diabetes (T1D) 2. multigenic, adult-onset, type 2 diabetes (T2D) 3. monogenic, MODY, type 3 diabetes (T3D) An estimated division of diabetic patients over these diseases is: T1D 5.5%, T2D 89% and T3D 5%. The remaining 0.5% of diabetic problems in humans originate mainly from gestational diabetes. Prediabetes causes overweight (not the other way round) and leads to long-term diabetes complications. Careful daily regulation of the blood glucose level, keeping the HbA1c fraction under 48 mmol/mol, prevents such complications. This booklet reveals how the ongoing diabetic epidemic could be controlled.
