The way in which this is done is explained on the first page of the body of this Index. A certain number of names contained in the International Catalogue had already appeared in earlier volumes of the 'zoological Record, ' and are consequently included in our Index No. 1. These names are placed in square brackets here.Although the primary object of the work is to serve as an Index to the ten years mentioned, yet it is also planned so as to be with Scudder's well-known 'nomenclator' a complete register of the names of Genera and Subgenera preposed for use in Zoology. We have therefore.
