Margaret is the only character for whom we feel undivided interest, she is entangled in the web of temptation, which the fiend has woven to catch the proud soul of his confident disciple, she is betrayed into crime through the kindest of affections: the potion which destroys her mother is unwittingly administered by her hand, and the murder of her child may be supposed to take place in a moment of insanity. Her doom is not, therefore, final.
