Excerpt from Hurrah for the Holidays: Or the Pleasures and Pains of Freedom
I now, for the first time in my life, write to you as a matter of duty, and in consequence of a command. This proposition is quite true, but it is not the less a fact, that I never wrote to you more willingly. I will tell you how this has happened.
You already, through my letters, know my favorite schoolmates, and are aware that Rudolph Westadt is the son of a wealthy gentleman, who resides at a beautiful country place, which Rudolph describes as combining all possible charms. Shortly before the holidays, he received a letter from his father containing permission to come home, and to bring as many of his favorite companions with him as he wished.
